Plan your vacation with our Utah highlights and local information
Utah Vacation Rentals – Utah Travel
Utah is truly an outdoor lover's paradise, with more skiing than you could possibly take in during just one vacation. You might need to plan two trips to the area touted as the "best snow on earth". While you're in Utah on a skiing jaunt, there are other things to do, including learning about Mormon history at the Brigham Young home in St. George, or visiting the Lion House in Salt Lake City. You might enjoy the Dinosaur National Monument in Vernal-Flaming Gorge, or the Delicate Arch in Moab.
Southern Utah
Moab, in the southern part of Utah, is considered the adventure capital of Utah, and is home to two national parks -- the Canyonlands and Arches. Canyonlands is Utah's largest park, with formations in red rock, while Arches contains the largest collection of natural stone arches anywhere. House boaters head for Lake Powell, where you can try your skills at cliff jumping, kayaking or boating. Rainbow Bridge is the largest natural bridge in the world and tour boats are available to get a good look. There is a portion of the Grand Canyon here in Utah and the secluded North Rim provides spectacular views. Zion National Park features the deep Zion Narrows canyon, which has pools and waterfalls. In Capitol Reef Park, learn the history of the pioneer area while enjoying the unique flora and geology there. Monument Valley has a wild west feel, and includes unique sandstone formations and the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. A large amount of red rock formations dazzle at Bryce Canyon. St. George features a wonderful temperate climate and revels in its many golf courses with scenic views.
Central Utah
Outdoor fun is coupled with historic elements in this area. Uncover the remnants of the former mining towns of Bullion Canyon and Marysvale or find the rock art at Fremont Indian State Park. The Paiute ATV trail is considered one of the best in the world; take your ATV along on the Little Sahara Sand Dunes.
Northern Utah
Ogden is located in Northern Utah and has become popular throughout the years for skiing and its railroad connections. Snowbasin Resort - the Winter Olympic event site - doubles as a biking/hiking locale during the summer. Utah Olympic Park in Park City, a 2002 Winter Olympic Site, features the Eccles Center which brings people in for shopping and entertainment. The highest peaks in Utah are found in the Uinta Mountains. Here you can experience hiking and backpacking or go all out with horse and llama packing. The area has excellent rafting as well. Genealogy fans enjoy the capital at Salt Lake City, where the Family History Library is located. You might admire the grounds and architecture of the state capitol building. The world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir calls historic Temple Square its home. You might want to visit This Is the Place Heritage Park, a living history museum that recaptures life in mid 19th Century Utah. This area also includes the Cache Valley, where the agricultural town of Logan is surrounded by mountains. The Bear Lake Recreation Center has year-round activities, while Logan Canyon offers spectacular views. Cache Valley is also home to a number of food factories, allowing you to sample everything from honey to cheese.
Skiing in Utah
Utah is a skier’s paradise with many resort areas primed for winter and skiing activities. The Salt Lake City area hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and Utah is home to the headquarters of the US Ski and Snowboard Associations. The average snowfall here is 300 to 500 inches annually.
Other sites to see and things to do in Utah include: Timpanogos Cave National Monument in Sundance/Provo; Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City; Heritage House in Kanabe; Utah House in Davis County; Flaming Gorge; Jacob Hamblin Home in St. George; and Kennecott Cooper Mine in Salt Lake City.
