Texas Vacation Rentals – Texas Travel
Everything in Texas is big -- from the food to the culture to the cities and the homes. So it stands to reason that big fun is waiting for the visitor to Texas. Here, you can visit Aquarium Pyramid in Galveston, the Crazy Water Well in Mineral Wells and the Marfa Mystery Lights Viewing Center in Marfa area.
Austin area
The area of Hill Country is home to Austin, a trendy city with a lot to recommend it for those who enjoy dining, culture, music, shipping, and nature trails. You can visit the nation's largest domed statehouse at the Texas State Capitol or the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. At this museum, all the history is told via interactive exhibits, multimedia shows and an IMAX theater is located there as well. Can't leave Texas without some authentic barbecue and it can be found in particular at the historic Scholz Garden. Follow that with a nice visit to the hills for a wine tour or some shopping.
Dallas-Fort Worth
The central area of the Prairies and Lakes region, Dallas has an array of interesting locations, from the fun and eclectic to the historic. The African-American museum here houses a very large collection of African-American folk art, while Deep Ellum features wearable art and live music. There are many historic homes around town and the Galleria is not to be missed. It features an ice-skating rink in the middle of the shopping mall. In Fort Worth you can experience the Old West today.
Gulf Coast
There are 624 miles of coastline here, and many water and beach activities exist, from the Padre Island National Seashore to Galveston and Corpus Christi. Houston is located in this area and it's the largest city in Texas with many arts and culture opportunities, including the Space Center Houston. Here, would-be space explorers can enjoy learning about space via NASA, the Johnson Space Center and Disney simulations. The ArtCar museum is fun with its custom-designed cars in entertaining settings.
Texas Panhandle
Well known for its beauty, the Panhandle Plains region boasts of broad, colorful sunsets and vast openness. The many lakes in this region bring a variety of outdoor opportunities, like at Possum Kingdom, where visitors delight in the swimming, fishing, camping and boating. Horse lovers will enjoy the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center and Museum in Amarillo, where an interactive museum is dedicated to the American Quarter Horse. At the Buddy Holly Center, Buddy Holly and other Texas musicians are honored, while you can find the music of your choosing at the Graham Central Station in Wichita Falls, where there are five clubs housed together.
Big Bend Country
This colorful region offers desert views of cacti and the peaks of mountains. Visit the two major parks here -- the Guadalupe Mountains and the Big Bend National Park area, where you can hike, camp and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Enjoy the spicy, authentic cuisine in El Paso, which also celebrates cultural diversity through the celebration of Thanksgiving in the springtime and through festivals.
Texas Plains
It's spicy and hot here, and the term "Tex Mex" truly applies to this area. The area is a good mix of its Texas-Mexican roots and celebrates that through its music, dining, history and culture. Remember the Alamo in San Antonio by visiting that mission and others at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, or bird watch in Laredo. You can just enjoy the warm tropical air of Rio Grande City.
Piney Woods
The beautiful area of the Piney Woods region is dotted with dogwoods, azaleas, and roses. For outdoor recreation and shopping, visit Longview, or for history, Nacogdoches, which is considered to be the oldest town in Texas. Here, you can see a lot of Texas history, including the reconstructed Millard's Crossing Historic Village.
The Cuisine of Texas
Food is big in Texas, like so much else. With the wonderful mix of cultures, it's no wonder there's a wonderful mix of cuisines from which to choose. There are a large number of food cook-offs, fry-offs, and festivals throughout the year, along with big portions. Chili is the state dish and barbecue was invented here. Steak is big here, and the many steakhouses here offer sometimes huge portions.
Some other things to do and sites to see in Texas include: Fulton Mansion State Historical Structure in Rockport-Fulton; Bremond Block Tour in Austin; Cave Without a Name in Boerne; Beard House in Jefferson; Excelsior House in Jefferson; Bishop's Palace in Galveston.
