New Jersey Vacation Rentals – New Jersey Travel
A nice mix of city and country awaits you in New Jersey the state of "liberty and prosperity". Here, you can gamble, head for the beach or visit quaint colonial towns. You might want to visit the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey or the Old Barracks of Trenton. You might want to time your visit to see the Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, or marvel at the battleship USS New Jersey on the Camden Waterfront.
Atlantic City
This is a city/resort area complete with a boardwalk famous for its cotton candy and roasted peanuts. The historic Boardwalk Hall hosts professional sports and family entertainment events. You can also find the well-known gaming paradise here, and those gaming facilities also provide plenty of nightlife entertainment opportunities. Historic Smithville Towne is a colonial-style shopping district full of quaint charm. The Atlantic City Art Museum should be on your to-do list as well.
Delaware River region
The Jersey state capitol of Trenton is located in the Delaware River Region, and you can take a tour of the gold-domed statehouse, which might also offer a glimpse of the government in action. At Princeton University, you can see Nassau Hall, where the Revolution-era Continental Congress met. The New Jersey State Aquarium is a must-see here -- it offers a variety of exhibits and research. Art enthusiasts should head to the Grounds for Sculpture Park, a 35-acre area that also houses a museum, a store and an arts building. There are many pick-your-own farms in this river region, while the Pine Barrens offers spectacular nature scenes in its millions of acres.
Northwest Jersey
This fun area of New Jersey has a fun mix of activities. You can head to the Delaware Water Gap Festival Recreation Area or to Chester and Frenchtown to the old-fashioned shops and streets. You might want to antiques, head to Lambertville, where you can also see the only commercial fishery in New Jersey, which is famous for its shad fish and shad fish award-winning festival. In Morristown, head for the National Historic Park, site of George Washington's military headquarters.
Gateway Region
So called because of its proximity to New York City, the Gateway region offers a mix of cultural experiences. The Meadowlands complex offers the best in spectator sports and entertainment, while the Meadowlands Racetrack offers a notable restaurant. In Tenafly, there are three to five different exhibitions per year at the African Art Museum. The Liberty Science Park in Jersey City expands your mind while the Liberty State Park overlooks Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Many shopping opportunities, ranging from the traditional to the unique, can be found here.
Shore Region
There are many white-sand beaches in this region of New Jersey, but there is also a fair amount of culture and history. You can just sit on the beach and enjoy the view or enjoy water sports like swimming, fishing and surfing. Many seafood restaurants abound, along with the Metz Bicycle Museum, which specializes in unusual and historical bicycles from the 1850s to 1950s. At Monmouth Battlefield State Park, you can view Revolutionary War battlefields.
At the Southern Shore, you get the true resort feel you might expect in this resort area. Some of the towns offering fun in the sun include Wildwood, Cape May and Ocean City. Also consider outdoor activities like birding, hiking, camping and boating. Cumberland County has several key spots for bird watching, and there is also ample shopping here in Dutch Neck Village, the Washington Street Mall in Cape May and the Cumberland Mall in Vineyard.
Shorelines of New Jersey
New Jersey is known for its 127 miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean and many of the towns here have the beach and resort flavor indicative of this fact. There are many water activities available, like surfing, diving and rafting, and scuba diving. Cape May Harbor highlights marine life, while Atlantic City offers plenty of amusements for all interests.
Some other sites to see and things to do in New Jersey include: the Sugar Hill Historical Museum; Governor John Wentworth Historic site in Wolfeboro; Wyman Tavern Museum in Keene; Governor John Langdon Mansion in Portsmouth; Littleton historic sites walking tour; and the John Wingate Weeks Historic Site in Lancaster.
