5 bedroom home between Cooperstown,and Colgate U. Is set in a country meadow overlooking 2 lovely ponds (Trout fishing available! No license necessary. ) Living space is all on one floor. The partially-exposed basement set in the side of a hill, with exercise, play equipment and laundry center has the advantage of being bright, but cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Its large windows have a great view of the pond, meadow and our pine forest. There are plenty of places to explore in the 25 acre area around the house. The house has radiant heat flooring and a wood stove in the basement for the winter months. Fans are in every room and an air conditioner is in the living room for the summer, but there is usually a breeze because of our location on a hill and nights are generally cool. Also, there is a stepper and stationery bike available, a basketball net for shooting hoops, volley ball, ping-pong and 4 mountain bikes (for rent) upon request. We are located only 16 miles from Cooperstown -Home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Dreams Park, as well as museums, lots of good restaurants, special events throughout the year, two great breweries, a three star golf course and the world-famous Glimmerglass Opera. Cooperstown also features the Clark Sports Center which is inexpensive, open to the public and has an Indoor Basketball Court, Indoor Running Track, Squash and Racquetball Courts, Bowling, Olympic-size Swimming Pool, Diving, Fitness Center, Aerobics Studio, Rock Climbing Walls, Challenge Ropes Course, Playing Fields, and Tennis Courts.

Edmeston, about 4 miles down the hill, is home to the Pathfinder Village Bakery with luscious donuts and pastries,and a lunch menu that changes daily. Schworm's, in town, has a deli, basic grocery items, good inexpensive meals and is famous for its pies. Spike's across the street is open late for snacks and videos. Hoyt's Hardware is our general store with everything from cards and gifts, to household supplies and fishing tackle. In the summer, the pool at the school is open. Nearby South Edmeston, has Farmer's Place for smoked products. Joe has won the gold medal for ham in the U. S. For several years & last year won the international prize in Frankfurt! He won medals in 21 out of 22 products that he took to the competition (we love the summer sausage, breakfast sausage and beef jerky. )Ask us about local eggs and organic veggies; local raw clover honey; wonderful truffles, fudge and specialty cakes from "Spunky Punkin", crafts and antiques from the Davis'family and great whole grain bread from nearby Burlington Flats. The area is also known for maple syrup and wine. Less than 15 minutes away is the famed Horned Dorset Inn with its renowned French cuisine. And if you like pizza (and other Italian specialties) New Berlin's NY Pizzeria is absolutely tops. For you motocross fans, we are about 15 minutes from Unadilla Valley Sports Center.
Seasonally, we have strawberry picking, blueberry picking and apple picking nearby. The fall foliage is spectacular and snowmobiling is a popular winter sport as well as cross country skiing, ice-skating and ice-fishing. Music and theatre are available year-round at very reasonable prices and sometimes free. And there are many golf courses (Red Pines is just out of town and perfect for teaching children, they also have a game room) and places for horseback riding (Chocolate Horse Farms offers lessons too), hiking, canoeing, biking etc.
For cultural events as well as lectures, Colgate University and Hamilton College have wonderful (and free or very inexpensive) events throughout the school year that are open to the public. In early summer, Colgate's Chenango Music Fest brings in top chamber music players from around the country and the world and has a festival of music, food, and other arts with entertainment as diverse as Jamaican steel band, children's puppet theatre, Finger Lakes wine-tasting, and tango dancers. Manhattan School of Music has free performances of classical music by professional and advanced students in Gilbertsville (a delightful art center) in August.
For those of you who like antiques or all kinds of bargains, there are garage sales everywhere from spring through fall and antique shops can be found in nearly every town. The Madison-Bouckville Antiques Show in August is the largest gathering of antiques dealer in NY and Madison has several antiques shops open year-round.
Road-side stands feature great local produce and there are good buys in local crafts, which you can find at the farmers' markets. The lovely crocheted place mats in the Theresa Martin House were made by a local crafter.
