A few things we would like to know are: 1) The year and month you stayed there and how many stayed.[Beki Peter] April 23 - May 14, 2004, 2-3 adults 1st week, 6 adults 2nd week, 5 adults 3rd week.2) What the grounds were like - well kept? gardens?[Beki Peter]Beautiful Rainforest, nicely manicured. Not really gardens per se...like to walk thru. But a nice tiled/cement patio area around the pool with rock wall and small gardens surrounding the pool area. The rest is the rain forest(manicured). The maid (Berta, very sweet) sweeps the outside area when she comes.3) What the view was like?[Beki Peter] The outlook has a nice sitting area and jacuzzi tub -- the ocean view from here is to die for! Close enough to hear and see the ocean waves-- wonderful place for morning coffee and sunset drinks! All bedrooms have views of the Rain forest - very nice. One bedroom has 2 decks, one overlooking pool/forest and other overlooking a portion of the groomed garden/tree area of the property.
4) What the pool was like? - We have 2 children (12&13) coming with us.[Beki Peter] The pool is a blast. Has a nice swim up bar that is fun to serve lunch on, and is covered, so good to sit under during rain. The pool/patio area sits under the trees of the rain forest and it's a real treat when the monkeys or toucans show up. Bruce comes by every 2-3 days to clean/check chemicals in the pool. And we were always up early after hearing the Howler monkeys, and enjoyed cleaning the pool and sweeping area of fallen leaves ourselves. It's a relatively small area, so easy to maintain.
5) The area (town) - how far? how big? fun?[Beki Peter] The town of Dominical is only 6ish miles north. It's a small beach town (2 main streets) and has several bar/restaurants/stores. As long as you're not into fancy places or big disco's, I think you will find it just fine. The town has great internet cafe's, vege/fruit shopping (especially at the bridge outdoor market) and the beach area is nice. There is a nice "upscale" resort less than a mile up the river from the town that has a very nice restaurant open to the public. But to be honest, we didn't spend a lot of time in town. We liked taking walks/hikes around the Villa every day & exploring roads south. The restaurant "La Parcela", between the Villa & Dominical, is our favorite- they have a beautiful walkway out to a point that is popular for viewing sunsets (gotta get there early tho - 5:30-6 for sunset). Also, there's a small cafe & pescada (fish) stand between the Villa & Dominical called "La Macha", known for their Ceviche - other dishes are great too! Actually, you'll find little restaurants (Soda's) all along the roads that are usually great to stop at.No worries on any food/water in CR - unlike Mexico, it's all good & safe--Even the meat! The local fish vendors (signs on road say "Se Vende Pescada") are great for fresh fish - don't worry about not speaking Spanish - just look at what they have & pick one -- white (blanca) fish is best (corvina, grouper, snapper, etc). Our favorite "Super Mercado" is in Uvita (only 7-ish mi south) - Edgar owns it and has all the food/etc you would need, & good prices. There's an excellent "Soda" there too (and internet café and hardware store!).
6) Is there a beach in close proximity? What's it like?[Beki Peter] There is a beach about 1/4+ mile south down a steep road/path, not a bad walk, it's beautiful but small and mainly good for walking the beach as the waves can get a bit dicey around the rocks for swimming in. There is a rock beach just below the Villa that you access by walking about 1/8th mile north, walk down a little road that has a water tank at top.For swimming there is a nice public beach in Dominical and several even nicer public ones south between the Villa and Uvita... you'll see the signs along the road. You can drive to these and have easy access & parking... and they are rarely crowded-- A few locals on the weekends. |
