Florida Vacation Rentals – Florida Travel

A vacation in Florida will offer you whatever you need -- rest and relaxation or high-energy sports activities. Looking for an "amusing" vacation? Florida has amusement parks in abundance. Interested in the state's history? Florida -- the "Sunshine State" can help you there too.

There's much to do and see in Florida that fully highlights all the state has to offer, from Port Canaveral, where you might be lucky enough to see a space shuttle blast into space, to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. You might visit the Everglades Alligator Farm in Homestead or enjoy all the Disney world has to offer.

    Florida Keys

At the Florida Keys, the main activities are water related. From the fine local seafood in restaurants to fun shopping, the order of the day in the Keys is rest and relaxation, with a healthy dose of fun and activity. Visit Key Largo's John Pennekamp State Park and view an underwater preserve that features an amazing array of fish and coral. Key Largo is also home to the African Queen -- moviegoers will note the importance of that name -- which is docked here. Key West, a particularly beautiful area of the Keys, has Civil War-era forts, and a variety of fun vendors and music. Visit the islands Islamorada and Marathon for fishing, or go diving and snorkeling off Looe Key and Big Pine Key.

    Central Florida

Central Florida offers a wealth of activities which includes shopping, fishing and site seeing. Visit the Fort Pierce/Vero Beach area for excellent fishing and sunbathing opportunities, or head over to Sebastian Inlet, which is the surfing capital of the East Coast.

In Orlando, visit Disney world, or learn about the endangered manatees that swim in the Crystal River. Head to the Space Coast, which is home to the Kennedy Space Center and the sand beaches of Cocoa Beach and the Ron Jon Surf Shop.

In the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, a tropical feel is coupled with arts and antiques. Tampa boasts diverse cultures and exhibits that diversity in restaurants and attractions like Busch Gardens and Ybor City history. Or you might want to head to Winter Haven and the nearby freshwater lakes for excellent golfing and bass fishing.

Sarasota and Bradenton also have fishing opportunities as well as culture, particularly in scenic Arcadia, which preserves its architecture from the 1800s.

    South Florida

Make South Florida your destination and be greeted with a wide variety of choices for activities. You might visit Miami and enjoy its varied shopping and nightlife as well as its large expanse of sandy beaches. Or head for Ft. Lauderdale with its emphasis on active and beach lifestyles melds nicely with family activities. In Naples, enjoy golf, high-end shopping and cultural events, or enjoy the posh Palm Beach area and its festivals and shopping and beaches located in Lake Worth, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach. Into nature? Visit Lake Okeechobee, which caters to hunters, bass fishermen and nature lovers.

    Florida Panhandle

Florida's famous Panhandle stretches from Pensacola to the state capitol of Tallahassee. In Tallahassee, enjoy the innovation, Southern hospitality and history located there. Visit Panama City Beach for plenty of water and outdoor sports activities. Enjoy oysters in Apalachicola or scalloping and fishing in Port St. Joe. Marianna boasts the state's highest waterfall, while Gadsden County boasts of an excellent antique and art gallery district. Pensacola is the site of North America's first European settlement, while nearby Destin is known for its abundance of excellent fishing opportunities. Port Walton Beach offers the Gulfarium which features exhibits and shows of marine life.

    North Florida

Each area of North Florida has its own charms and activities to recommend it. Cedar Key is prime area for fishing in saltwater estuaries, while Ocala is defined by the fresh air and clean rivers. Visit the famous raceway or play on the beaches at Daytona or golf six holes on the ocean north of Flagler Beach. At Big Shoals State Forest in White Springs, you can go whitewater rafting, or visit St. Augustine for a lesson on its Spanish influence or sunbathing and surfing. Ponte Vedra Beach offers exciting tennis and golf resorts, while Gainesville offers an interesting mix of nature, history and the University of Florida. Jacksonville has a somewhat split personality, offering both the activities and amenities of a city and the beautiful beaches found by the intersection of St. John's River and the city.

    The beaches of Florida

Florida is nearly defined by its peninsula position, and many areas of Florida play up its ‘beachy’ feel. Beach activities permeate much of Florida's offerings, and range from swimming, wake boarding, diving, snorkeling, and fishing to kite surfing. Much of the culture of Florida is based upon its beach lifestyle and is supported by excellent shopping, nightlife and other amusements.

Some other sites to see and things to do in Florida include: the Everglades National Park; Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse; Pensacola Historical Museum; The Citrus Tower in Clermont; Museum of Arts and Sciences and Center for Florida History in Daytona Beach; Dolphin Cruise on a Southern Star glass bottom boat; Colonial Spanish Quarter in St. Augustine; Knott House Museum in Tallahassee; and Jacksonville Zoological Gardens.
